FLORENCE, SC – Freshman Amanda Mitchell and senior Jessica Lombardi registered 14 and 12 kills respectively to lead Francis Marion University to a four-set win (22-25, 25-18, 25-8, 25-20) over USC Aiken, Thursday evening (Oct. 16) in Peach Belt Conference volleyball action.
Sporting pink uniforms as part of the “Dig Pink” National Breast Cancer Awareness Rally, Francis Marion improved to 17-5 overall and moved into sole possession of second place in the PBC with a 3-1 mark. USCA drops to 13-8 and 2-2.
In addition to her game-high kill total, Mitchell also recorded a .333 attack percentage. Lombardi added 11 digs and four blocks. FMU senior setter Jenna Kaiser handed out 41 assists and served a pair of aces, while sophomore libero Kelsie Deaton dug up a team-high 12 balls.
Sophomore Megan Disney led USCA with 12 kills, while senior Stefanie Durham added 10 kills. Setters Whitney Tabbert and Lauren Cedeno dished out 21 and 16 assists respectively, while Durham and libero Danielle Spice each tallied 14 digs. Disney completed her double-double with 10 digs.
After splitting the opening two sets, FMU won set three convincingly 25-8, holding the Pacers to a negative hitting percentage (-.120) in 25 attacks.
Francis Marion will play host to Lander University on Saturday at 3 p.m., while the Pacers travel to UNC Pembroke on Saturday for a 5 p.m. match.
