FLORENCE, SC – Amanda Mitchell, Jessica Lombardi, and Emily Hill combined for 31 kills and Francis Marion University overcame a slow start to sweep past South Carolina State University in three sets (30-28, 25-16, 25-7), Wednesday evening (Nov. 5) in non-conference volleyball action.
FMU pushes its record to 21-7 and finishes its home schedule with a near-perfect 14-1 mark. S.C. State falls to 12-21.
Mitchell recorded 11 kills while hitting .400, and Hill had 10 kills while hitting .667 in 15 attempts. Lombardi compiled 10 kills in her final home appearance. Senior setter Jenna Kaiser, who recently moved into ninth place on the Peach Belt Conference’s all-time assists list, dished out 38 helpers on Wednesday. She also dugs up a game-high 16 balls.
Sophomore Jarne Gleaton paced the Lady Bulldogs with eight kills and eight digs. Freshman setter Bria Brimmer handed out 20 assists.
The Patriots will close out their regular season slate on Friday with a 7 p.m. match at UNC Pembroke. S.C. State will finish its 2008 regular-season schedule with a 6 p.m. match at North Carolina Central University on Monday.
