MILLEDGEVILLE, GA – Hans Stancil went 4-for-4 with six RBIs, while John Caruso went 5-for-5 with three RBIs to lead 18th-ranked Georgia College & State University to a 17-4 victory over Francis Marion University to wrap up a three-game Peach Belt Conference series, Sunday afternoon (Feb. 13).
GC&SU (3-3, 2-1 PBC) takes two out of three in the series over the Patriots (5-2, 1-2 PBC).
Freshman Justin Greene went 2-for-4, while first baseman Luke Ogletree went 2-for-3 with one RBI to lead FMU at the plate.
Christian Castorri (2-0) tossed five complete innings, allowing four runs on seven hits to earn the victory, while Mike Bergstrom tossed a one-hit shutout over the last four innings to clean things up for the Bobcats. FMU sophomore Brooks Sinquefield (1-1) took the loss after allowing four runs (three earned) on two hits in 1.1 innings.
Caruso started things in the bottom of the first inning with a run-scoring single to put the Bobcats on the board 1-0. GC&SU exploded for four runs in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Stancil. The Patriots plated a pair of runs in the third inning, but the Bobcats answered again with three more runs in the bottom of the frame to lead 8-2.
FMU scored two more runs in the fourth inning, but GC&SU plated three runs in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, with Stancil clubbing a three-run home run in the sixth.
Caruso had two doubles on the day as the Bobcats pounded out 19 hits. Justin Mills also had a good day at the plate for the Bobcats after going 3-for-6 with an RBI.
FMU returns to action on Wednesday when the Patriots host Wingate University at 3 p.m.
