Inabinet Collects 200th Win as Patriots Roll

FLORENCE, SC - Francis Marion University recorded a team-record tying 26 hits as the Patriots routed Benedict College 21-2, Thursday afternoon (Feb. 17) in non-conference baseball action, handing FMU head coach Art Inabinet his 200th career coaching victory.

Inabinet owns a 116-93 mark in five seasons at FMU, and previously posted an 84-54 in four years at North Greenville College (while the Mounties were a four-year program).

FMU junior infielder Omar Quiles tied another Patriot single-game record with five singles in seven at bats.  He scored twice and drove in two runs.  Other Patriot hitting leaders included: Quentin Davis who was three-for-six with an RBI, Jason Weaver was three-for-three with two RBIs, Chris Hutto was three-for-four with an RBI, and Michael Ward was three-for-three with three RBIs.

Junior outfielder Stan Markle collected the game's lone home run, a drive over the right field fence that interrupted the FMU softball game by landing halfway up the home plate backstop.

Freshman right-hander Dusty Floyd (2-0) was the beneficiary of the Patriot hitting barrage, as he allowed three hits and one run in five innings.

Benedict lefty Darrick Cook was tagged with the loss, as he allowed 12 runs in 2.2 innings.  In addition to the 26 hits, FMU took advantage of three Benedict errors and 10 bases-on-balls thrown by Tiger pitchers.

FMU will play a three-game Peach Belt Conference series at ninth-ranked Kennesaw State University this weekend.  The two squads will play a doubleheader, Saturday at 1 p.m. and a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
