GREENWOOD----Lander University's David Wilson allowed just four hits Friday night (April 15) as the senior left-hander led the Bearcats to a 7-2 Peach Belt Conference upset victory over 15th-ranked Francis Marion University at Legion Field.
Lander, which snaps an eight-game losing streak in the PBC, improves to 23-20 overall and 9-12 in the PBC. Francis Marion drops to 28-14-1, 15-12-1.
Wilson (7-4) struck out six, walked two and allowed two earned runs in the complete-game victory.
FMU freshman righty Dylan Owen (5-3) took the loss, striking out four, walking one and allowing six earned runs in six innings pitched.
Lander struck first with two runs in the second inning. Adam Strongman was hit by a pitch and was followed by a Ryan Roeder double. Strongman and Roeder went home on Kevin Davis' line-drive RBI single that FMU third baseman Brian McFadden couldn't handle.
FMU tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning when Quentin Davis (double) and Luke Ogletree (single) both scored on Michael Ward's double down the right-field line.
The Bearcats regained the lead in the fourth when Strongman went home on a throwing error by Owen.
Lander exploded for four runs in the sixth inning to stretched its lead to 7-2. Roeder (hit by pitch) scored on Davis' RBI single; James Compo (single) crossed the plate on Jeremy Ryals' sacrifice fly; Davis went home on Jonathan Myers' RBI double; and Myers scored on Radley Raven's RBI single.
For Lander, Myers (1-for-4, one runs scored, one RBI) and Roeder (1-for-2, two runs scored) both doubled. Strongman went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Davis went 2-for-4, one run scored and three RBI.
FMU's Davis (1-for-3, one run scored), Michael Ward (1-for-4), and Nick Richardson (1-for-3) all doubled.
