Ogletree's Drive Lifts FMU Past Saints in 10

FLORENCE, SC - Senior first baseman Luke Ogletree doubled into the leftcenter field gap with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning to score Jason Weaver as 10th-ranked Francis Marion University rallied for a 4-3 win over Limestone College, Tuesday evening (April 19) in non-conference baseball action.

FMU improves to 31-14-1, equaling the second-highest win total in the program's 33-year history. Limestone, coached by FMU graduate and former Patriot outfielder Chico Lombardo, falls to 28-22-1.

Lombardo was a member of the other FMU squad (1979) to win 31 games.  The victory was also a key win in the race for possible playoff positioning in the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Region.

FMU senior reliever Mitch Norris (4-1) got the win as he retired as eight Limestone batters he faced.

Weaver singled with one out in the 10th frame.  Quentin Davis was then hit by a pitch, advancing Weaver to second.  Ogletree then battled Limestone lefty Josh Cochran (4-3) through 10 pitches before drilling a line-drive into the outfield alley.

Right-hander Jamie Langford pitched the first 7.2 innings for the Saints, allowing only one  earned run.

Limestone led 3-1 going to the bottom of the eighth inning, but FMU scored an unearned run in the eighth on an RBI double by Davis, and then knotted the score at 3-3 on an infield single by Nick Stewart and a subsequent throwing error with two outs in the ninth.

Center fielder Travis Clary (2-5) and designated hitter Paul Irby (2-4) each had two hits for the Saints.  David Wise recorded two RBIs with a sacrifice fly and a ground ball, while Rob Bouknight recorded an RBI groundout to account for the Limestone tallies.

Davis was three-for-four, while Ogletree and Brian McFadden were both two-for-four.

FMU plays host to Claflin College, Saturday at 2 p.m.
