BANNER ELK, NC – Sophomore Jonathan Bartomioli scored one goal and assisted on another to Francis Marion University to a 2-1 win over Lees-McRae College, Friday night (Aug. 26) in men's soccer action.
The match was part of the Lees-McRae College Soccer Classic and was the season opener for both squads. FMU will face the University of the Cumberlands, Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
After a scoreless first half, Bartomioli scored off an assist from Valentine Baker in the 58th minute. Freshman Willie Hunt tallied FMU's second goal in the 74th minute, thanks to an assist from Bartomioli.
Patriot goalkeeper Jonathan Runion was working on his 10th career shutout, but the Bobcat's Sebastian Abirched scored in the 89th minute. Runion ended the match with five saves as FMU outshot Lees-McRae 11-7 and held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
