Patriots go 1-1 to conclude DuRant Memorial

FLORENCE, S.C. –  For the second consecutive day, Francis Marion University split a pair of matches at its own Joseph B. DuRant Memorial Invitational Tournament, Saturday (Aug. 27) in the Smith University Center.

FMU completed the two-day event with a 2-2 mark.  The Patriots play in the Moretz Invitational Tournament next Friday and Saturday in Hickory, N.C.

The Patriots defeated Barton College on Saturday morning 30-16, 30-22, 30-27 behind 11 kills from Lezlie Logan and 10 kills from Jessica Bartlett.  Sophomore setter Brittany

Helgeson handed out 25 assists in only her second career start.  The Patriots also fired off 11 service aces against the Bulldogs, led by five from Jessica Strader.

In its second action of the day, FMU dropped a 26-30, 30-26, 30-23, 25-30, 17-15 decision to Wingate University.  The match lasted 2:25 and featured numerous momentum changing plays.

Senior Kelly Feber led Francis Marion with 19 kills, 20 digs, and three service aces.  Bartlett and Logan tallied 18 and 17 kills respectively.  Strader added 21 digs from her libero position, while junior setter Melissa Hennessy recorded 55 assists and 17 digs.
