WILSON, N.C. – Sophomore forward Jonathan Bartomioli ripped in a shot from 12 yards out off a pass from Shondell Busby in the 60th minute Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 7) to give visiting Francis Marion University a 1-0 non-conference men's soccer victory over Barton College.
Barton, which entered the match ranked 10th in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region, posted a 15-9 advantage in shots on goal, but couldn't find the net against FMU goalie Jonathan Runion. The Bulldogs fell to 1-2-0 for the season, while the Patriots rose to 3-2.
It was the second match-winning goal for Bartomioli this season, and he leads the Patriots with four total goals.
FMU plays host to Brevard College, Saturday at 2 p.m.
Runion tallied 10 saves, while sophomore Matt Coble tended net for the Bulldogs and came up with six saves.
The physical match also featured four yellow cards for Barton and two yellows for FMU that led to an ejection for Valentine Baker with four minutes left.
