WINTER PARK, Fla. – Junior Lezlie Logan totaled 65 kills to lead Francis Marion University to three wins in four matches this weekend at the South Region Volleyball Tournament in Winter Park, Fla.
On Friday, the Patriots defeated Carson-Newman College in five games (28-30, 30-24, 22-30, 30-18, 15-10) and lost to host Rollins College in five games (24-30, 30-24, 30-22, 24-30, 15-9). On Saturday, Francis Marion swept both Florida Tech (30-24, 36-34, 30-27) and Saint Leo University (30-20, 30-24, 30-27) in three games.
With the wins, Francis Marion improves to 20-9, its second straight 20-win season and 14th in team history.
Against Carson-Newman, Jessica Bartlett had 19 kills, Kelly Feber 17, and Logan 16, while freshman setter Jenna Kaiser handed out 53 assists and had 16 digs. Junior libero Jessica Strader dug out a career-high 33 balls and served three aces. The 33 digs is also the second-highest single-match total ever for a Patriot player.
In the loss to Rollins, Logan totaled 17 kills, while Kaiser recorded a career-high 55 assists and Strader equaled her career-high of 33 digs from earlier in the day.
In the win over Florida Tech, Feber led the Patriots with 15 kills, while Logan had 13. Kaiser compiled 44 assists and 13 digs, while Strader had 17 digs.
Against St. Leo, Logan pounded out 19 kills, while Kaiser registered 32 assists and 11 digs. Strader added 25 digs in the three-game win.
FMU will play host to Presbyterian College, Tuesday at 7 p.m.
