Patriots Blank Jaguars 3-0 on Volleyball Court
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Junior Lezlie Logan and senior Jessica Bartlett recorded 15 and 14 kills respectively to lead Francis Marion University to a 30-12, 30-21, 30-28 victory over Augusta State University, Friday night (Nov. 4) in Peach Belt Conference women's volleyball action.
Francis Marion ups its overall record to 25-10 and is now 9-2 in the PBC, while ASU is 6-25 and 2-9.
Augusta State went quietly in the first two games, but in game three, the Jaguars began to get some traction, leading by as much as seven points. However, the Patriots battled their way back, tying the score at 24. ASU took the lead two more times, but FMU maintained its momentum and took game three 30-28.
Logan registered a .440 hitting percentage and also recorded four blocks. Bartlett hit .560 with three blocks. The Patriot defense was led by libero Jessica Strader with 12 digs and Michelle Settergren with five blocks. Sophomore setter Brittany Helgeson dished out a match-high 33 assists and Jenna Kaiser had 15 helpers.
As a team, the Patriots hit .405 with six service aces and nine team blocks.
Freshman Emily Joye led the Jags, notching 12 kills, while hitting .435 with five blocks. Junior Sarah Lobstein had 10 kills and five digs and senior Meredith LeGrand posted a match-high 14 digs. Setter Sarah Watson recorded 28 assists.
ASU had a hitting percentage of .125 and posted seven blocks and four aces.
