Thomas Free Throws Lift Anderson over FMU Women 70-68
FLORENCE, S.C. – Sophomore forward Latrice Thomas made two free throws with 2.5 seconds left to give Anderson College a 70-68 non-conference win over Francis Marion University, Wednesday evening (Dec. 14) in women's action.

Junior 5-2 guard LaShonda Chiles led the Trojans (4-2) with 26 points and five assists, while freshman guard Keana Boyd added 20 points and Thomas 12 points and seven rebounds.  Chiles has now scored in double figures in 51 straight contests.

Sophomore forward Creshenda Singletary led Francis Marion (3-4) with a season-high 20 points and 10 rebounds.  Senior Danielle Moore chipped in 18 points and four assists, and moved closer to the 1,000-point mark as she now stands at 972.  The Patriots have lost three consecutive games in the Smith University Center for the first time since the 1994-95 season.

Thomas’ free throws came after she rebounded a missed jumper by Chiles under the Anderson basket and was fouled by Moore.  Following her charity tosses, FMU's Singletary missed a 40-foot shot at the final horn.

Anderson missed 15 of its first 19 field goal attempts and trailed 19-13 with 8:37 left in the opening half.  However, the Trojans closed the half with a 22-11 run to leave the floor at intermission holding a 35-30 advantage.

The margin would grow to 16 points on three occasions in the second half, the last at 53-37 on a fast-break layup by Boyd with 13:02 remaining.  Francis Marion countered with a 26-8 spurt to claim a 63-61 lead with 1:45 left.  After the two teams traded baskets, Chiles drained a three-pointer from the left corner to put the Trojans up 66-65 with one minute remaining.  Following an FMU miss, Chiles hit two free throws to extend the Anderson lead to 68-65 with 22 ticks left.  Nine seconds later, Singletary tied the game with a three-pointer setting the stage for Anderson's final possession.

After hitting nine of 10 free throws in the first half, FMU struggled in the final 20 minutes, making only four of 12 from the line.  The Patriots also committed 25 turnovers and despite having eight offensive rebounds did not record any second-chance points.

FMU will close out its pre-New Year schedule with a Dec. 20 contest at North Carolina Central University in Durham, N.C. Anderson returns to action on Jan. 5 with a home game against Belmont Abbey College.
