FMU Women Look to Moore for 64-52 Win
FLORENCE, S.C. – One game after surpassing the 1,000-point mark for her career, senior forward Danielle Moore tallied a career-high 29 points to lead Francis Marion University to a wire-to-wire 64-52 win over USC Aiken, Wednesday evening (Jan. 11) in Peach Belt Conference women's basketball action.

FMU (5-6, 3-2) win its second straight PBC game, while USCA (5-7, 1-4) has now dropped two consecutive conference contests.

Moore hit on 10 of 13 field goal attempts and led the Patriots with eight rebounds and four steals. Freshman guard Kirby Marsh added nine points for the Patriots, who dressed only eight players for the game.

Sophomore Avonte Williams led the Lady Pacers with 14 points and six rebounds, while freshman Meredith Legg scored 10 points.

Francis Marion hit its first four field goal attempts, all layups, and never trailed in the contest. The Patriots led by as many as 14 points on two occasions (21-7 and 34-20), before settling for a 34-22 halftime advantage.

The second stanza was nearly dead even with both teams scoring 30 points and Francis Marion shooting 40.9 percent from the floor and USCA 40.0 percent.

FMU used an 11-0 run midway through the final half to claim a 52-31 lead with 10:17 remaining. Moore accounted for 10 of the 11 points. USCA answered with a 15-0 spurt, six by Kendra Chandler, to trim the margin to 52-46 with 2:49 left.   Moore then drained a three-pointer and sophomore point guard Brittany Young hit three of four free throws to push the margin back to 12 points at 58-46.

FMU hit seven of nine free throws in the final 1:40 to seal the victory, its 38th win over USCA in 53 all-time meetings.

Francis Marion converted 26 USCA turnovers into 28 points and held a 12-4 margin in fast-break points.

The Patriot women will travel to Columbus, Ga., on Saturday to meet Columbus State University in a 2 p.m. contest, while USCA will play host to USC Upstate, Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
