DAHLONEGA, GA. - Three starters recorded double-doubles to help North Georgia College & State University remain unbeaten in Peach Belt Conference play with a 69-56 win over Francis Marion University, Wednesday night (Feb. 1) despite a record-setting night by the FMU defense.
Sophomore 6-4 center Shavone Mack led FMU (8-10, 6-6) with a career-high 16 points and a Peach Belt and FMU record 12 blocked shots. As a team, FMU blocked 19 shots, also a PBC and FMU single-game mark. The previous individual Patriot record was 11 set by Tracey Tillman against Pembroke State University on Dec. 3, 1986, while the old FMU team mark was 16 against Newberry College on Feb. 7, 1987.
Sophomore guard Renee Guilliams added 13 points off the Patriot bench.
North Georgia broke a 2-2 deadlock with a 9-0 run and never trailed in the contest. Francis Marion trailed 40-25 at halftime. Eleven points was as close as the Patriots would get in the second stanza.
Forward Lara Seamon led NGC&SU (17-3, 13-0) with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Syretha Marble added 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Jeanine Dorminey tallied 13 points and 10 rebounds.
