FLORENCE, S.C. – Brenau University won two of three doubles matches en route to a 5-4 win over Francis Marion University, Friday afternoon (Feb. 3) in women's tennis action, spoiling the Patriots' season opener.
The 36th-ranked Patriots (0-1) will play at #26 Erskine College, Saturday at noon.
Brenau took wins at the first and third doubles positions, while FMU claimed the No. 2 doubles spot with an 8-1 win by sophomore Sarka Vitkova and junior Magda Jezovicova.
In singles action, Brenau took wins at the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 5 positions. Senior Zora Gyoreova won at No. 1 singles with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Vitkova.
FMU singles winners were junior Kamini Murugaboopathy 6-1, 6-3 at No.3; Jezovicova 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4; and sophomore Sarah Hickman 7-5, 6-3 at No.6.
