Patriot Men Rain Threes on Braves
FLORENCE, S.C. – The senior trio of Michael Jenkins, George Walker, and Vony Rivers combined for 61 points and 17 assists and Francis Marion University tied a school record by making 16 three-point field goals en route to a 78-61 win over UNC Pembroke, Monday night (Feb. 6) in Peach Belt Conference men's action.

Jenkins paced Francis Marion (9-11, 4-9) with 22 points and seven assists, while Walker tallied 20 points and nine rebounds, and Rivers 19 points and six assists. The five FMU starters accounted for all but three of the team’s 78 points.

FMU was 16 of 46 from beyond the three-point arc, equaling the school record for treys made, set last season also against UNCP. The attempts total was a new school mark, bettering the old record of 38 set against UNCP in 2001, and was only one shy of the mark for a PBC game set by Columbus State University in 2005.

Reserve guard Lee Moore led the Braves (4-16, 1-12) with 13 points, while senior guard Jeffrey Brown added 12 points, and junior forward Mark Salazar 11 points. UNCP suffered its 26th consecutive PBC road loss.

Francis Marion led by only one point at 26-25, but closed the first half with a 19-7 run by canning five-of-seven three-point attempts.

The Braves trimmed the margin to 52-44 on a trey by Brown with 15:10 remaining. FMU led by nine (57-48) with 12:50 left, but used a 14-6 spurt to claim a commanding 71-54 lead with 7:32 remaining on the clock.

Francis Marion outrebounded UNCP 40-27 and owned a 17-2 advantage in second-chance points. The Braves did shoot 51.2 percent from the floor for the game, including nine-of-17 from three-point range.

FMU will play host to Armstrong Atlantic State University, Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., while UNC Pembroke hosts Georgia College & State University on the same evening at 7:30 p.m.
