MILLEDGEVILLE, GA. – Center Aaron Clark tallied 15 points and 10 rebounds and first-place Georgia College & State University overcame a one-point halftime deficit to down Francis Marion University 55-48 in Peach Belt Conference men's action on Saturday night (Feb. 11).
Francis Marion drops to 9-13 overall and 4-11 in the PBC, while GC&SU improves to 16-6 and 13-3. The Patriots have come away on the losing end of seven of their last eight trips to Milledgeville.
Senior George Walker paced Francis Marion with 13 points, while Vony Rivers added nine.
Following a first half that saw the two squads combine to shoot 12 of 49 from the field, FMU left the floor for the locker room clinging to an 18-17 advantage. The Patriots led 11-2 with 12:20 left before halftime, but the Bobcats scored nine straight points to knot the game at 11-11.
The FMU lead would grow to 26-19 early in the second stanza after a Michael Jenkins three-pointer. A 7-0 GC&SU run again tied the contest. A jump shot by senior Michael Carter with 6:13 remaining again put the Patriots up by seven points (44-37). GC&SU then scored 18 of the game’s final 22 points as FMU could only muster five more field goals attempts – making two – while committing five turnovers. The Bobcats hit seven of their last nine shots from the field.
FMU ended the game shooting 33.3 percent from the field, and the Patriots hit only three of seven free throw attempts.
FMU travels to USC Aiken for a PBC contest on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
