Francis Marion splits twinbill with Carson-Newman
JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. - Francis Marion University split a non-conference softball doubleheader at Carson-Newman College on Saturday (March 4), as the Patriots won game one 9-3, but dropped the second game 5-0.

Game 1: Francis Marion 9, Carson-Newman 3

Francis Marion used a six-run seventh inning to take the game one win.  Monica Wofford went two-for-four with a home run and three RBIs for FMU. Junior right-hander Jessica Johnson (3-2) picked up the win for the Patriots as she gave up only four hits and struck out nine batters.

Carson-Newman senior Lisa Rogers became the school's career leader in home runs as she hit her 22nd homer in four years. Rogers, who is now batting .500 on the season, went four-for-five in the two games. On the season, she has five homers and 15 RBIs.

Game 2: Carson-Newman 5, Francis Marion 0

The Lady Eagles used back-to-back doubles in the third inning to build a 4-0 lead over Francis Marion and went on to a 5-0 win in the seond contest. 

Mandy Stevens smacked a two-run double to give C-N a 2-0 lead in the third.  Rogers and Amber Palmer followed with back-to-back doubles to push the lead to 4-0. Whitney Hickam scored the final run of the game on an RBI single by Mandy Stevens.

Jessica Armstrong picked up the win for C-N as she pitched all seven innings, struck out four FMU batters and only allowed four hits.

The Patriots play a doubleheader at Tusculum College on Sunday.
