HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. - Francis Marion University shot a final-round 298 team score to finished in sole possession of eighth place at the 2006 Birkdale Collegiate Men's Golf Classic, hosted by Davidson College.
The annual 54-hole event was played on the Par 72, 7013-yard Birkdale Golf Club layout.
FMU, which was tied for eighth place after Friday's opening two rounds, finished with a three-round team score of 915.
Sophomore Colin Floyd led the Patriots as he tied for 10th place in the individual standings. The Loris native fired a 75 on Saturday to finish with a three-ropund score of six-over-par 222.
Other FMU golfers included Aengus McAllister tied for 33rd (79-78-73=230), Luke Hart tied for 39th (83-77-72=232), and Adam Hart (80-81-78=239) and Ronan O'Connor (76-80-83=239) tied for 57th.
Charlotte claimed the team title as the 49ers fired a two-under 286 for the second straight round. The 49ers finished with a 54-hole total of six-over-par 870, 19-strokes better than the rest of the field en route to becoming the first team in the history of the event to defend their crown.
Neil O'Briain of Wofford College carded a final-round 72 to grab individual medalist honors. He entered the last day of play three strokes better than the field and beat Charlotte's Ray Sheedy (-1) by two shots.
Francis Marion will return to action on Monday at USC Aiken's Palmetto Intercollegiate Tournament.
