SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Francis Marion University, paced by sophomore Jacob Tveit's final-round 75, finished 10th at the 19th-annual Wofford College Invitational presented by VAULT at The Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, S.C. The course played at par 72 and 6,877 yards during the event.
Shawn Hall of Charleston Southern University captured medalist honors with an even-par 216, while leading his squad to the team crown, three shots ahead of the host Terriers. Hall surged into a fourth-place tie Monday after firing a tournament-low 67 during the second round and then registered a one-under tally on Tuesday for an even par 78-67-71--216 to claim medalist honors by one stroke over Western Carolina University's Matt Cook and a two-shot edge over Wofford's Neil O'Briain.
The Buccaneers finished with a 35-over-par 899 score, three shots ahead of the Terriers (902), with whom Charleston Southern entered the final 18 holes in a tie. Following Wofford were Samford University and Elon University (tied at 904), Davidson College (908), University of Tennessee-Chattanooga (910), Old Dominion University (911), Western Carolina (918), Winthrop University (919), Francis Marion (933), Gardner-Webb University (946), and Wofford's B Team (956).
Tveit finished tied for 19th at 80-74-75=229, while other FMU golfers included freshman Andrew Pitcher tied for 32nd (79-77-78=234), sophomore Colin Floyd tied for 37th (78-79-78=235), freshman Ronan O'Connor tied for 40th (78-79-79=236), and junior Frederick Fox in 57th position (79-88-82=249).
The Patriots will conclude their season, April 28-30, at the Division I Independent Golf Championship in Windsor, Colo.
