FMU rallies past Lander in four games

FLORENCE, SC – Senior middlehitter Lezlie Logan led three players with double-figure kills as Francis Marion University rallied from a game-one loss to down Lander University 26-30, 30-24, 30-26, 30-24, Friday night (Sept. 15) in Peach Belt Conference volleyball action.

The Patriots up their record to 11-4 and open PBC play 1-0. Lander falls to 13-3 and 0-1. FMU has beaten the Bearcats 29 times in 33 all-time meetings.

Logan pounded out 15 kills, while junior Jackie Phiel and sophomore Allison Good each had 11. Phiel added 13 digs, while Good served four aces. Sophomore setter Jenna Kaiser dished out 38 assists and senior libero Jessica Strader registered 31 digs for the Patriots, who won despite hitting only .098.

Kay Stewart and Kerri Sorensen paced Lander with 12 kills apiece, while Jennifer Edwards handed out 31 assists. Sara Senn added 11 kills and a game-high 32 digs.

Francis Marion plays at USC Upstate, Saturday at noon.
