FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University freshman Kyle Clinton and USC Aiken senior Emmanuel Maduka each scored second-half goals for their respective teams and the Patriots and Pacers battled to a 1-1 tie, Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 20) in Peach Belt Conference men’s soccer action.

Both teams remain unbeaten in PBC play at 1-0-1 as Francis Marion moves to 3-3-1 overall and USCA (5-3-1) pushes its unbeaten streak to six matches.

Following a scoreless first half that featured only a combined four shots on goal, Clinton tallied his team-leading sixth goal of the season at the 65:13 mark. The lanky forward headed in a corner kick by junior Biagio Galle.

USCA answered with the tying goal at 71:12. Forward Reuben Ojeyinka raced around an FMU defender in the right side of the box and crossed the ball to Maduka for a seven-yard shot that found the back of the net.

In the second overtime period, USCA had two good scoring opportunities. A shot by Ojeyinka was cleared off the goal line by Galle in the 102nd minute. A blast by Pacer freshman Corey Adamson in the 103rd minute was stopped by FMU sophomore goalkeeper Nick Krywyj, but the ball bounced away to Ojeyinka in the box. However Krywyj was able to reach out and corral the loose ball before the Pacer forward could get off a shot.

Both teams registered 14 shots, while Francis Marion had a 9-5 edge in corner kicks.

Krywyj recorded six saves, while Pacer keeper Harold Tate made five stops.

Francis Marion plays at 19th-ranked Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference match, Saturday at 3:30 p.m., while USCA plays host to Shorter College, Friday at 7 p.m.
