FLORENCE, SC – Senior Lezlie Logan and sophomore Jessica Lombardi each registered 15 kills to pace Francis Marion University to a 30-20, 30-25, 30-26 Peach Belt Conference win over Augusta State University, Friday night (Sept. 22) in women’s volleyball action.
The 14-4 Patriots win for the fifth straight time and sit atop the PBC standings at 4-0. ASU drops to 7-7 and 0-3.
Lombardi also recorded a .344 hitting percentage and dug out 14 balls. It was her second consecutive double-double. Patriot setter Jenna Kaiser handed out 37 assists, while libero Jessica Strader had a match-high 16 digs. Junior Jackie Phiel served three aces and had 12 digs.
Freshman Jessica Howard led Augusta state with 11 kills and four solo blocks, while senior Sarah Lobstein added 10 kills. Junior setter Jessica Lowes tallied 30 assists and Brittany Hotz paced the Jaguars with 13 digs.
Prior to the game, FMU honored its 2005 PBC Tournament championship squad as the Patriots placed a banner in the Smith University Center rafters. Former Patriot hitter Jessica Bartlett now serves as an assistant coach for ASU.
FMU plays host to USC Aiken, Saturday at 3 p.m., while ASU plays at UNC Pembroke, Saturday at 3 p.m.
