Francis Marion golfers finish 6th at Joe Agee Invitational

WILLIAMSBURG, VA – Paced by top-15 finishes from sophomore Andrew Pitcher and freshman Christopher Couch, Francis Marion University placed sixth at the Joe Agee Invitational Tournament, hosted by the College of Williams and Mary.

FMU carded a final-round 287 to finish only eight strokes out of third position.

Old Dominion University claimed team honors with a three-round score of 842. Loyola College was second at 851, followed by East Carolina University (861), the University of Richmond (867), William & Mary (868), FMU (869), Princeton University (870), St,. Joseph’s University (878), James Madison University (882), and Towson University (883). The tournament field consisted of 18 schools.

The 54-hole event was played on the par-70, 6,646-yard Two Rivers Country Club course.

Pitcher shot a final-round 73, to go along with rounds of 70 and 69 on Monday, to finish in a three-way tie for 12th position at 2-over-par 212. Couch, a native of Summerville, finished one shot back (75-72-66=213) in a tie for 15th place. His 4-under 66 on Tuesday was the low score of the day.

Other Patriot golfers included freshman Jonathan Lavin tied for 44th (77-71-76=224), junior Jacob Tveit tied for 47th (79-73-73=225), and senior Frederick Fox tied for 61st position (75-78-75=228).

FMU will compete in its final tournament of the fall, Oct. 30-31, at the ODU/Seascape Collegiate Invitational in Kitty Hawk, NC.
