FLORENCE, SC – Senior Lezlie Logan pounded out 11 kills in only 20 attack attempts as Francis Marion University claimed a relatively easy 30-26, 30-11, 30-11 win over Fayetteville State University, Tuesday night (Oct. 10) in non-conference women’s volleyball action.

FMU (19-6) has won its last two matches and 10 of its last 12, while Fayetteville State falls to 10-15.

Junior Michelle Settergren followed Logan with nine kills and two solo blocks. Freshman Jess O’Leary in her first start at the setter position, handed out 33 assists. Senior libero Jessica Strader paced the Patriots with a match-high 17 digs, while Jessica Lombardi had eight kills, 10 digs, and three service aces.

Three players – Mia Eubanks, Cassandra Peterson, and Heather Chance – paced Fayetteville State with four kills apiece. Senior setter Crystal Huffman registered 15 assists and 11 digs, while junior libero Sha’Quana Veney had 12 digs.

The Broncos took an early lead in game one before Francis Marion rallied to take the lead for good at 23-22. The Patriots scored the opening six points in game two and never trailed again. FMU scored the first four points of the final game.

Francis Marion will play in the Blue Hose Invitational Tournament, this Friday and Saturday in Clinton, S.C. Fayetteville State University travels to Saint Augustine’s College on Saturday for a 2 p.m. match.
