FLORENCE, SC – Junior Michelle Settergren registered 13 kills to lead three Francis Marion University players with double-digit kills as the Patriots swept to a 30-25, 30-28, 30-27 win over visiting UNC Pembroke, Wednesday evening (Oct. 18) in Peach Belt Conference women’s volleyball action.

FMU (22-7, 7-2) also received 11 kills apiece from senior Lezlie Logan and junior Jackie Phiel. In the process, Logan surpassed 1,800 kills for her career and now stands only 105 away from the PBC all-time record. Sophomore setter Jenna Kaiser handed out 37 assists and dug up 11 balls, while senior libero Jessica Strader had a match-high 16 digs.

Senior Abigail Parker paced UNCP (7-15, 2-7) with 17 kills, nine digs, and five service aces. Freshman libero Andrea Laza posted 14 digs, while setters Lexie Wood and Lacie Johnson dished out 18 and 17 assists respectively. Wood also served five aces.

Francis Marion scored the match’s first six points and never trailed in game one. The Braves led 26-23 late in game two, before FMU used a 7-2 run to claim the victory. Settergren ended the game with a kill off a set from Kaiser. Game three also saw UNCP hold a late lead (27-26) before the Patriots registered the final four points of the match.

Francis Marion will entertain USC Upstate for Senior Night, Friday at 7 p.m., while UNCP plays host to Lander University, also on Friday at 7 p.m.
