FLORENCE, SC – Senior Lezlie Logan compiled 19 kills and sophomore setter Jenna Kaiser registered a double-double with 41 assists and 21 digs to pace Francis Marion University to a 30-24, 30-20, 30-24 win over USC Upstate, Friday evening (Oct. 20) in Peach Belt Conference women’s volleyball action.

FMU (23-7, 8-2) wins for the 14th time in its last 17 matches and sweeps the season series from USC Upstate (19-9, 4-5).

Sophomore Jessica Lombardi added 10 kills and 16 digs for FMU, while senior libero Jessica Strader tallied 11 digs.

Senior Mandy Rupert led the Spartans with 14 kills and 14 digs. Setters Morgan Bucciferro and Holly Mauldin handed out 22 and 13 assists respectively. Mauldin also served four aces and Bucciferro dug out 13 balls. Libero Rachel Olds recorded a team-high 19 digs.

As a team, Francis Marion hit .341, while holding USC Upstate to a .099 figure.

Leading only 22-21, FMU pulled away late to win game one. USC Upstate led midway through game two, only to see the Patriots close with a 17-6 run. USC Upstate led 21-19 in the final game, before FMU rallied behind the serving of sophomore Allison Good.

Francis Marion will play host to Lander University, Saturday at 3 p.m. in the team’s final regular-season home match, while USC Upstate plays at UNC Pembroke, also on Saturday at 3 p.m.
