DUE WEST, SC- Freshman Brandon Wright scored 26 points, including six three-pointers, to lead Erskine College to a 66-51 non-conference victory over Francis Marion University, Thursday night (Nov. 30) in men’s basketball action.
The Fleet bounced back from a pair of last-minute losses to even its record at 2-2, while FMU (3-2) had its three-game winning streak snapped.
Senior forward Raymond Dorsey paced Francis Marion with 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting, and junior Rodrick Burton followed with 10 points, his fifth straight double-digit effort of the young season. Burton also hauled down a season-high 10 rebounds.
Erskine stretched a 17-point halftime lead (32-15) to 25 points (54-29) with12:29 remaining in the game. Francis Marion went on a 19-5 run to cut the deficit to 11 points at 59-48 with 1:47 to play, but could get no closer.
The Patriots struggled from the field, hitting only 31.7 percent of their field goal attempts, including only 3-of-21 from three-point range.
Wright hit 8-of-13 floor shots, including 6-of-9 from beyond the arc, and 4-of-5 free throws. T.J. Taylor was the only other Erskine player in double figures with 10 points.
Erskine outrebounded Francis Marion 39-38 with Craig Williams gathering 13 to lead the Fleet.
FMU plays at Newberry College, Saturday at 4 p.m.
