ORANGEBURG, S.C. - Junior left fielder Justin Greene drove in four runs, highlighted by a three-run homer, as sixth-ranked Francis Marion University blanked Claflin University 12-0, Sunday afternoon (Feb. 4) in non-conference baseball action.
The Patriots plated nine runs in the third inning, while improving to 2-1 on the young season. The contest was Claflin's season opener.
Junior left-hander Michael Williams (1-0) struck out eight in five shutout innings to earn the win.
In addition to Greene's 2-for-3 day, freshman second baseball Ryan Hewitt had a double and drove in three runs and junior shortstop Greg Phelps was 4-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored.
FMU will host the three-day Gerald Griffin Classic (PBC-CVAC Challenge) Friday through Sunday.
