PEMBROKE, N.C. – Senior guard Dominic Bishop scored 22 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead Francis Marion University to a hard-fought 52-48 victory over UNC Pembroke, Wednesday evening (Feb. 7) in Peach Belt Conference men's basketball action.
Francis Marion (7-14, 4-7) wins for the fourth time in its last seven outings, while UNCP drops to 6-17 and 5-7. The Patriots trail the Braves by only a half-game in the battle for third place in the PBC’s North Division standings.
Junior guard Nate Morley added 11 points and six rebounds for FMU.
Forward Jonathan Hart was the lone UNCP player in double figures with 11 points.
Trailing by eight points (17-9), the Patriots used a 19-6 run to close the first half and took a 28-23 lead at intermission. A three-pointer by Morley at the 5:54 mark gave FMU the lead for good.
Francis Marion never trailed in the second half, although UNCP trimmed the margin to 46-45 with 2:08 left. A three-point play by Bishop restored the lead to four points, and following a UNCP free throw, Bishop added two charity tosses with 30 ticks left to seal the victory.
The Patriots play host to North Georgia College & State University, Saturday at 4 p.m.
