Wolf and Aleman power Patriots to softball sweep over BAC

FLORENCE, S.C. – Freshman left-hander Michaela Wolf tossed a five-hitter and hit a three-run homer in game one and junior shortstop Allie Aleman ended game two with a two-run homer as Francis Marion University swept a non-conference softball doubleheader from Belmont Abbey College on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 10) by the scores of 5-1 and 9-0.

FMU is 4-0 and will play host to Catawba College for a twinbill on Sunday at 1 p.m. Belmont Abbey sees its mark fall to 2-2.

Wolf allowed only a single unearned run in the opener, while striking out seven. She went 2-for-3 at the plate. Her home run was part of a five-run third inning. Senior first baseman Janine Allen had three hits in three at bats and drove in one run.

First baseman Rachel Parker paced Belmont Abbey in game one with a pair of hits in three at bats. Erica Rutledge (1-1) was tagged with the loss.

In the second game, Francis Marion pounded out 13 hits. Both Aleman and left fielder Lakyn Bendle were 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two runs batted in. Allen collected two hits and drove in three runs.

Senior righty Jessica Johnson (1-0) allowed only three singles in the five-inning contest, while fanning seven. She also had two hits at the plate and scored one run.

Belmont Abbey starter Carrie Markham (1-1) was the losing pitcher as she allowed four runs.

Aleman’s homer capped a five-run fifth frame that ended the game because of the 8-run mercy run.
