Barkdoll’s five RBIs lift FMU Past Barton 10-4

FLORENCE, S.C. – Sophomore catcher Jared Barkdoll had three hits, including a home run, and drove in five runs to lead 28th-ranked Francis Marion University to a 10-4 non-conference win over Barton College, Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 20) in baseball action.

Junior right-hander Dusty Floyd (1-0), making his first start of 2007, allowed only one run in five innings to push his career mark to 11-0. In addition to Barkdoll, senior Michael Ward also had three hits and drove in one run.

After allowing a first-inning run, Francis Marion tallied single runs in each of the first four frames. The Patriots also scored three runs each in both the sixth and seventh innings to take a commanding 10-1 advantage.

Righty Brent Godwin (1-2) took the loss for Barton (4-10). Jimmy Metzinger came off the Bulldog bench to record two hits and two RBIs, while leadoff hitter Travis Holloman also had a pair of hits and scored twice.

FMU (6-4) plays at Wingate University, Wednesday at 4 p.m. as the Patriots begin a string of 10 consecutive road games. Barton plays host to St. Augustine’s College for a doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 1 p.m.
