FLORENCE, S.C. – Senior forward Natasha Stotler scored 17 points to help guide UNC Pembroke past Francis Marion University 64-55, Wednesday night (Feb. 21) in Peach Belt Conference women’s basketball action.
Sophomore guard Kirby Marsh was the lone Patriot in double figures with 13 points. FMU drops to 5-21 overall and 2-13 in the PBC with a record-tying ninth consecutive defeat.
Following Stotler for the Lady Braves (12-14, 9-6) was forward Ivy Ramsey with 10 points.
UNCP never trailed in the contest and the score was tied only once, at 4-4. After leading by as many as 19 points (35-16), the Lady Braves settled for a 36-22 halftime advantage.
In the second half, FMU drew to within 41-35 when Marsh hit the second of back-to-back three-pointers with 16:59 left. UNCP responded with a 15-4 run to go ahead 56-39. The margin would grow to 62-43 with 6:26 remaining, before FMU closed the game with a 12-2 spurt to trim the deficit under double figures.
UNCP outrebounded Francis Marion 37-28 and held a 14-3 advantage in second-chance points.
Prior to the game, Francis Marion recognized its lone senior, guard Shaketa Preal. The Miami native ended the game with four points.
FMU ends its regular-season slate with a road contest at North Georgia College & State University, Saturday at 4 p.m. UNCP plays host to USC Upstate, Sunday at 2 p.m.
