FLORENCE, S.C. – The nationally ranked Francis Marion University men’s and women’s tennis teams both defeated Mount Olive College, Wednesday afternoon (April 4) in non-conference action on the Kassab Courts.
The 17th-ranked Patriot women improved to 9-4 with an easy 9-0 blanking of the Mount Olive women (10-13). FMU lost only one set en route to its second straight 9-0 decision, and fourth shutout win of the year.
The 29th-ranked FMU men moved over .500 for the season at 6-5 by winning two of three doubles matches and then four of six singles matches to claim a 6-3 victory over the Trojans (11-10). Patriot junior Franklyn Emmanuel defeated Gullherme Serra in straight sets (7-6, 7-5) at No. 1 singles.
The Patriot women will play at UNC Pembroke on Thursday at 3 p.m., before both FMU squads play host to nationally-ranked Georgia College & State University, Friday at 2 p.m.
