AUGUSTA, GA – Seniors Kamini Murugaboopathy and Magda Jezovicova won both in singles and doubles play to help 19th-ranked Francis Marion University to a 5-2 upset of 11th-ranked Georgia College & State University, Saturday evening (April 21) in the fifth-place match at the 2007 Peach Belt Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament.
Francis Marion (15-7) now awaits the announcement of the NCAA Division II National Tournament field to see if the Patriots receive another tournament invitation.
After FMU won two of three doubles matches, Murugaboopathy won at No. 2 singles, Jezovicova won at No. 4 singles, and junior Sarka Vitkova won at No.1 singles – all in straight sets – to give FMU the victory.
The fifth-place finish equals Francis Marion’s highest tournament finish since the event went to dual match play in 2000.
