AMERICUS, GA – Junior Willie Hunt scored three goals to lead Francis Marion University to a 6-0 Peach Belt Conference win over Georgia Southwestern State University, Saturday afternoon (Sept. 15) in men’s soccer action.
The Patriots snap a three-game losing streak to improve to 2-5-0 and now stand 1-0-0 in the PBC. FMU will play host to Mount Olive College on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Hunt’s hat trick was the first for a Patriot in four seasons and the 23rd in team history.
The other FMU scores came from sophomore William Awagu, his first career tally, sophomore Kyle Clinton, and senior Jonathan Bartomioli, his 16th career goal.
Freshman Juan Rivas assisted on two of the goals, while seniors Biagio Galle and Joey Pineo had one helper apiece. FMU outshot the Hurricanes 15-7.
Junior goalkeeper Nick Krywyj and Jeremy Crooks combined on the shutout, the team’s largest shutout margin in a road match since a 6-0 blanking at Coker College in 1999. Both recorded one save.
