Patriot outfielder Greene named PBC Player of the Week

FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University senior center fielder Justin Greene has been named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week, for the period of April 14-20.

The Patriots’ only action of the week was a three-game conference series at Augusta State University. Greene batted .615 (8-for-13) in the series as Francis Marion won two of three games. He homered in every game, scored nine runs, and drove in nine. He recorded a slugging percentage of 1.846 and an on-base percentage of .722. He also did not commit an error in the field.

The Goose Creek, native opened the series on Saturday with a 3-home run, 7-RBI game as the Patriots blasted the Jaguars 27-9. Greene’s three homers and five runs scored both tied PBC conference game records. During Sunday’s doubleheader, he homered in a 12-10 game-one loss and went deep again in game two as the Patriots prevailed 5-0.

For the season, Greene leads the Patriots in hitting (.386), runs scored (50), stolen bases (16), slugging percentage (.582), and sacrifice hits (11).

Francis Marion is ranked 29th in the latest Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II Top 30 poll released on Monday (April 21). FMU is 32-18 overall and tied for third in the PBC standings with a 16-11 mark.

FMU officials have announced that the April 30 home game against Newberry College has been canceled at the request of the Indians. Francis Marion’s next action will be at the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, May 8-11 in Aiken.

Greene is a product of Stratford High School.

He previously earned PBC Player of the Week honors once in 2007.
