Two Patriots (Stewart and Young) named to PBC All-Sportsmanship Team

AUGUSTA, GA. – Francis Marion University senior baseball outfielder Nick Stewart and junior basketball point guard Brittany Young have been named to the second-annual Peach Belt Conference All-Sportsmanship Team.   One male and one female student-athlete from each of the league’s 12 member schools were placed on the team.

Stewart, a native of Greenville, hit .340 this past season with 43 runs scored, six doubles, eight triples, seven home runs, and 36 RBIs. In right field, he posted a .976 fielding percentage that included an amazing 11 assists. He ended his four-year-career with a record-tying 18 triples and is fourth in career RBIs with 136. He helped the nationally ranked Patriot diamond team to a 36-18 record and a third-place in the PBC. A sociology major, Stewart is highly involved with his church, team Bible studies, and the FMU Campus Outreach organization. He has been on several mission trips.

Young, a native of Moncks Corner, led the Patriot women in scoring at 11.8 points per game and in assists at 5.6 per contest, third-best in the Peach Belt and 16th nationally. She is fifth on the program’s career list for assists (440), with her senior season yet to be played. A political science major, she also took an active role in the athletic department by serving as president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, helped a young FMU squad through a head coaching change this spring, is very involved with her church, and has been selected to both the Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll and the FMU Swamp Fox Athletic-Academic Honor Roll several times.

Each PBC member institution selected its own representatives to appear on the teams using criteria set by each school. However, each student-athlete on the All-Sportsmanship Team has demonstrated consistently good sportsmanship and ethical behavior in his or her daily participation in PBC athletics and good citizenship outside of his or her sports setting.
