FMU Women remain in first place with 88-64 win at GSW
AMERICUS, GA – Francis Marion University placed three players in double figures as the 18th-ranked Patriots methodically downed Georgia Southwestern State University 88-64 on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 9) in Peach Belt Conference women’s basketball action.

The win keeps the Patriots (17-3, 10-3) alone in first place in the PBC standings, while the Lady Hurricanes (1-20, 0-14) remain winless in conference play.

Junior guard Jennifer Dyer and junior forward Creshenda Singletary both scored 13 points, while sophomore forward Yasmean Dixon added 12 points.  Thirteen of the 16 Patriots who dressed scratched in the scoring column.

Brynne Callaway paced Georgia Southwestern with 15 points, while Brittany Reynolds tallied 13 points and nine rebounds.

Leading 16-13, FMU scored 11 straight points, five by point guard Kevina Ramson, to take a 27-13 advantage with 10:56 left in the first half.  The margin would eventually grow to 34-17 following a basket by Rita Grayson at the 7:53 mark.  That 17-point margin would be the same lead Francis Marion would carry into the locker room at halftime (47-30).

The Lady Hurricanes would get no closer than 15 points in the second half.  A three-pointer by Singletary with 9:08 remaining gave FMU its largest lead at 69-39.

FMU forced 36 turnovers by the Lady Hurricanes and the Patriots enjoyed a 21-of-29 showing at the free throw line.

Francis Marion concludes its three-game road swing (in five days) on Sunday with a 2 p.m. game at Columbus State University.  The video broadcast of the game can be purchased at http://www.peachbeltsports.tv/.
