March 4, 2008 - Francis Marion University senior guard Brittany Young was named to the 2008 All-Peach Belt Conference Team, while women’s coach Heather Macy was named the conference’s “Coach of the Year,” and forward Simel Boyd was named the men’s basketball “Freshman of the Year.”

July 9, 2007 - Former Francis Marion University men’s basketball and golf coach Tim Watson died on July 5 in a Florence hospital after an illness. He was buried July 8 in Woodside Cemetery.

July 5, 2007 - Former Francis Marion University men’s basketball player Reinaldo Jean Charles has been named to the preliminary roster of the Venezuela national team according to the National Basketball Federation of Venezuela (FVB). The Venezuelan squad will compete in the FIBA Americas Championship 2007, Aug. 22-Sept. 2, in Las Vegas.

November 15, 2006 - The Francis Marion University men's basketball team opens its 2006-07 season on Wednesday (Nov. 15) as the Patriots travel to Coker College for the 50th all-time meeting with the Cobras.

September 1, 2006 - First-year Francis Marion University men's basketball head coach Gary Edwards has announced two appointments to his staff. Jonathan Holmes, of Bloomington, Ind., and a graduate of the University of North Carolina, has joined the Patriot staff as an assistant coach, while former FMU player Jarron Hinton of Lima, Ohio, has been added as a volunteer assistant coach.

August 9, 2006 - First-year Francis Marion University men's basketball coach Gary Edwards has announced that two in-state products, Daniel Hall of Clover and Devon Smith of Allendale, are joining the Patriot program and will attend FMU this fall.

August 3, 2006 - First-year Francis Marion University men's basketball coach Gary Edwards has announced the signing of Nate Morley of Maryville, Mo., to a national letter of intent to attend FMU this fall and play for the Patriots.

April 26, 2006 - Francis Marion University athletic director Murray Hartzler announced on Wednesday (April 26) the hiring of Gary Edwards of Indiana, Pa., as the university's new head coach for men's basketball. The announcement was made at a news conference at The Cottage on the FMU campus.

February 28, 2006 - The Francis Marion University men's basketball team will play in the opening round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament on Wednesday afternoon (March 1), while the Patriot women will play in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

February 24, 2006 - The Francis Marion University men's and women's basketball teams will play host to Clayton State University in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader as part of Senior Day and Homecoming 2006 festivities, Saturday afternoon (Feb. 25). The women's basketball game will tip-off at 2 p.m. in the Smith University Center, followed by the men's contest at 4 p.m. FMU will honor its 1986 NAIA women's basketball national championship squad at halftime of the women's game.

February 17, 2006 - The Francis Marion University men's and women's basketball teams, battling for position in the Peach Belt Conference standings, will play host to Columbus State University on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 18) for a PBC doubleheader. The twinbill will also feature a visit by the official mascot of NCAA Basketball, J.J. Jumper.
