Collins Named FMU Cage Assistant
July 11, 2006 -
FLORENCE, S.C. – First-year Francis Marion University men's basketball head coach Gary Edwards has announced that Adam Collins, a native of Charleston, has joined the Patriot staff as an assistant coach.

Collins’ primary responsibilities will include recruiting, on-floor coaching, individual player workouts, pre- and post-season workouts, and helping in the area of academic support for team members.

Collins comes to FMU after spending one year as an assistant coach at Henderson State University, during which the Reddies compiled a 15-12 mark.

He previously served as head coach at Mercyhurst North East Junior College in Pennsylvania, where he recorded a pair of 20-win seasons (23-6 and 21-8) and earned national Top 10 rankings. His 2003-04 squad captured the Western New York Athletic Conference championship.

He also previously worked as an assistant under Edwards at Indiana University of Pennsylvania during the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons. IUP recorded a combined 44-17 mark and made an appearance in the 2002 NCAA Division II Final Four.

Collins also served as an assistant at Howard College in Texas, Independence Community College in Kansas, and Charleston Southern University. He began his coaching career at Harvest Baptist High School in Charleston, where he led the 1996-97 boys’ varsity team to a 15-13 record.

Collins earned the B.S. degree in history from Charleston Southern, and later received an M.S. degree in sports studies from IUP. He is a graduate of Stratford High School.

Collins is a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

FMU returns six lettermen from last season’s 12-16 squad that placed eighth in the Peach Belt Conference.
