FMU's Edwards inks two Cagers
July 25, 2006 -
FLORENCE, S.C. – First-year Francis Marion University men's basketball coach Gary Edwards has announced the signing of Cortne' Baker of Carrollton, Texas, and Gregory Borojevich of Columbus, Ohio, to national letters of intent to attend FMU this fall and play for the Patriots.

Baker
, a 5-7 160-pound point guard, is a product of Carrollton Newman Smith High School, where he played for coach Jon Youngblood.

As a senior, he averaged 11.2 points, 9.3 assists, 2.4 steals, and 2.3 rebounds per game, while earning TABC All-Region honors. He was also a McDonald’s All-American nominee.

A four-year starter, he garnered second-team All-Region honors as a junior after averaging 15.5 ppg and 6.5 apg.

In addition to his prep career, he most recently played on the Texas Top Prospects AAU squad.

Borojevich
, a 6-6 208-pound forward, played at Centennial High School under the direction of coach Roosevelt Osborn.

This past season, he averaged 21 ppg, 12 rpg, and 3.0 blocked shots per game while connecting on 61 percent of his field goal attempts. He earned third-team All-State recognition and helped lead the Stars to the Central District championship game.

A four-year letterman and a three-year starter, he left Centennial as the career scoring leader with 1,248 points. He was a two-time first-team All-District 10 and All-City League selection.

As a junior, he averaged 20 ppg, 12 rpg, and 2.0 bpg, while shooting 60 percent from the floor.

“These two signees are the essence of the type of student-athlete we are looking to bring to FMU,” said Edwards. “Cortne is a true point guard, who is a great passer that is unselfish and sees the floor well. Gregory is an undersized post player. He plays extremely hard, is a good rebounder, and does the little things that help win ball games.”

Francis Marion returns seven lettermen from last season’s 12-16 squad that placed eighth in the Peach Belt Conference.
