FMU signs guard Nate Morley
August 3, 2006 - FLORENCE, S.C. – First-year Francis Marion University men's basketball coach Gary Edwards has announced the signing of Nate Morley of Maryville, Mo., to a national letter of intent to attend FMU this fall and play for the Patriots.
Morley, a 6-3 175-pound shooting guard, is transferring from Highland (Kan.) Community College, where he played for coach Mike Morley, his older brother. He will have two years of eligibility at FMU.
This past season as a sophomore, he averaged 11.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.6 steals, while earning honorable mention All-Jayhawk Conference honors. He connected on 42.7 percent of his three-point attempts and shot 81.1 percent from the free throw line. He committed only 37 turnovers in 29 games.
Morley played his freshman campaign at Indian Hills Community College, and is a product of Maryville High School. In addition to his brother who heads the Highland program, another brother Ryan is the assistant coach at Highland and brother Zach is playing professionally overseas after playing at the University of Wisconsin. Morley’s father, Del, is a former coach at Northwest Missouri State University.
Francis Marion returns seven lettermen from last season’s 12-16 squad that placed eighth in the Peach Belt Conference. Edwards previously announced the signing of 5-7 point guard Cortne' Baker of Carrollton, Texas, and 6-6 forward Gregory Borojevich of Columbus, Ohio.
