FLORENCE, S.C. – First-year Francis Marion University men’s basketball coach Gary Edwards has announced that two in-state products, Daniel Hall of Clover and Devon Smith of Allendale, are joining the Patriot program and will attend FMU this fall.
Hall, a 6-5 210-pound wing player, is a graduate of Clover High School, where he played for coach Dudley Lybrand.
As a senior, he averaged 10 points and five rebounds per game. Clover ended the regular season ranked No. 1 in the state, before losing to the eventual AAA state champion in the state tournament quarterfinals.
Smith, a 6-4 190-pound guard, is a product of Allendale-Fairfax High School, where he played under the direction of coach Russel Crews.
This past season, he averaged 17 points and eight rebounds per game, while helping his squad to a 17-6 record. Allendale-Fairfax advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the AA state tournament, before being eliminated by the eventual state champion.
Francis Marion returns seven lettermen from last season’s 12-16 squad that placed eighth in the Peach Belt Conference.
Hall and Smith will join three other newcomers to the FMU squad: 5-7 point guard Cortne' Baker of Carrollton, Texas, 6-6 forward Gregory Borojevich of Columbus, Ohio, and 6-3 guardNate Morley of Maryville, Mo.
