FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University junior point guard Kevina Ransom has been named the Peach Belt Conference women’s basketball “Player of the Week” for the week of Jan. 21-27.

Ransom, a 5-5 native of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., averaged 20 points, 8.5 assists, 6.0 steals, and 4.0 rebounds in two games last week for the streaking Patriots. The national leader in steals per game (5.3), Ransom began the week with 16 points, nine assists, seven steals, and four rebounds in a 101-86 win over Augusta State University. She then scored a career-high 24 points with eight assists, five steals and four boards in a tough come-from-behind road win at Clayton State University.

She connected on 50 percent of her field goal attempts (13-26) and had a 2.42 assist/turnover

ratio. Ransom accrued these numbers while coming off the Patriot bench and playing only 27 minutes per game in the two contests.

Ransom is now in the top 20 in scoring in the PBC (11.4 ppg), in addition to being ranked first in steals, fourth in assists (5.3 per game), and eighth in turnover ratio.

She has helped lead the 13-2 Patriots to within one-half game of the PBC lead. FMU plays at first-place Lander University on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Francis Marion returns home to entertain North Georgia College & State University on Take A Kid to the Game (TAKG) Day, Saturday at 2 p.m. Admission for kids, 12-and-under, will be free, and a parent can get in for just one dollar. The SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere) Club from Moore Intermediate School will perform a routine at halftime of the men’s game that day.

Ransom is a product of Northwest Halifax High School, and was an honorable mention All-American at Louisburg College before transferring to FMU.
