FMU women's hoop program holds coaching clinic

The Francis Marion University women's basketball program recently held a coaching clinic for high school and AAU coaches, Sept. 22, at the university.

The Saturday afternoon clinic was attended by more than 30 high school and AAU coaches. FMU head women's basketball coach Heather Macy addressed the group, talking about individual player development and presenting the “Fire Truck Shooting Packet,” which is a packet of drills that the coaches can take back and use with their team.

Phil Stern, current women's head coach at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, also addressed the group and spoke about the Princeton Offense and the concepts of using backdoors, handoffs and pass and cut within an offense.

Macy later spoke about the Inter-State offense that her squads run at FMU, which is based on the Princeton concepts. She also talked about her pressure defensive scheme and the importance of drilling those concepts every day in practice.
