FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University golf team will play host to the third-annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Tournament, Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 25-26), on Hilton Head Island. The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.
The event will begin the spring season for FMU as the Patriot golf team, which in its first year as a full NCAA Division I member, compiled a 26-33 fall record.
The Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate field will include Francis Marion, Bowling Green State University, Davidson College, East Carolina University, Elon University, Furman University, George Washington University, Kennesaw State University, Marshall University, Northern Illinois University, Oakland University, Presbyterian College, USC Aiken, Winthrop University, and Wofford College.
USCA won the 2006 event, while the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga captured lat year’s event.
Monday will mark the return to intercollegiate competition for the NIU squad after the school canceled all sporting events following the recent shootings on campus.
