FORT WAYNE, IN - Francis Marion University sophomore Jacob Tveit is among 13 golfers named to the 2005-06 Division I Independent Men's Golf All-Academic Team announced on Tuesday.
The cumulative grade point average of the 13-member team is 3.62.
Tveit, a biology major, appeared in eight tournaments this past year and compiled a 75.4 stroke average for 23 rounds. He recorded two top-20 finishes, including a 14th-place showing at the recent Division I Independent Championships. Francis Marion completed its first year of transitioning from NCAA Division II to Division I affiliation with a 67-63-5 team record.
Junior Chris Shuford of Longwood University, who is majoring in chemistry, physics, and mathematics, owns the team’s highest GPA at 3.956.
Nominations for the squad were accepted for student-athletes who had at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA, had reached sophomore athletic standing, and had participated in 50 percent of their team’s matches for the 2005-06 school year.
