January 31, 2008 - Athletic Department officials at Francis Marion University have announced the hiring of Charley Mitchell of Raleigh, N.C., as assistant coach for men’s soccer and the university’s equipment manager. He is a former Patriot soccer player and an FMU graduate.

November 1, 2007 - Francis Marion University senior forward Jonathan Bartomioli, senior midfielder Biagio Galle, and freshman forward Juan Rivas have been named to the Peach Belt Conference 2007 men’s soccer All-Conference Team.

October 31, 2007 - Third-seeded UNC Pembroke received second-half goals from Andrew Brown and Thomas Morrow and the Braves continued a red-hot October surge by ousting sixth-seeded Francis Marion University 2-0 in the opening round of the Peach Belt Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament, Tuesday evening (Oct.30) at Varsity Grounds. The setback ended the season for Francis Marion (5-12-1).

October 28, 2007 - Sophomore Kyle Clinton scored an unassisted goal in the 60th minute and Francis Marion University went on to earn a 1-1 overtime tie with 13th-ranked Clayton State University, spoiling the Lakers’ Homecoming Saturday night (Oct. 27). Both teams were playing their final regular-season matches of 2007.

October 23, 2007 - Freshman back Justin Kibler and sophomore midfielder Kyle Clinton both scored on headers in the second half and Francis Marion University went on to claim a 2-1 victory over Catawba College, Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 23) in non-conference men’s soccer action. Playing for the final time at home in 2007, Francis Marion (5-11-0) snapped a three-game skid.

October 20, 2007 - Freshman forward Clay Davis scored the match’s lone goal in the 38th minute as North Georgia College & State University edged Francis Marion University 1-0, Saturday afternoon (Oct. 20) in Peach Belt Conference men’s soccer action, ruining the Patriots’ Senior Day festivities. FMU drops to 4-11-0 and 1-4 with its seventh one-goal loss of the year.

October 3, 2007 - For the second consecutive year, the Francis Marion University men’s soccer team will participate in the Passionately Pink for the Cure™ program, Wednesday, Oct. 17, when the Patriots play host to USC Aiken. The match will begin at 4 p.m. on the FMU Soccer Field. Admission is free. Fans attending the match are encouraged to wear pink. Pink commemorative t-shirts are available for $12 if ordered by calling 843-661-1241 before Oct. 5.

October 13, 2007 - Lander University's Drew Courtney scored two second-half goals and added one assist Saturday afternoon (Oct. 13) to lead the 13th-ranked Bearcats to a 5-2 Peach Belt Conference men’s soccer victory over Francis Marion University. The Patriots drop to 4-9 overall and 1-2 in the PBC.

October 17, 2007 - FLORENCE, SC – Senior forward Kofi Akyere scored three goals in a 6:02 span in the second half to carry USC Aiken to a 3-2 win over Francis Marion University, Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 17) in Peach Belt Conference men’s soccer action.

October 6, 2007 - Freshman Ivan Juric scored a pair of goals, one in each half, to help carry Francis Marion University to a 3-0 victory over local-rival Coker College, Saturday afternoon (Oct. 6) in men's non-conference soccer action action spoiling the Cobras' Homecoming match. FMU improves to 4-8 overall with its 12th straight win over the Cobras.

October 4, 2007 - Freshman Ian Wagner scored on a 30-yard direct kick in the 72nd minute to lift UNC Pembroke to a 3-2 Peach Belt Conference win over Francis Marion University, Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 3) in men’s college soccer action. FMU (3-8, 1-1) drops its third consecutive match.

September 27, 2007 - Debola Ogunseye scored four goals, including his third consecutive match-winning score, and had one assist as Newberry College came back to defeat Francis Marion University 5-4, Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 26) in NCAA Division II men's soccer action.
Francis Marion falls to 3-7-0.

September 23, 2007 - Carson-Newman College scored a pair of first-half goals and the 10th-ranked Eagles went on to claim a 3-1 non-conference win over a pesky Francis Marion University squad, Saturday afternoon (Sept. 22) in men’s college soccer action.

September 20, 2007 - Freshman forward Juan Rivas scored a pair of goals and the Francis Marion University defense recorded its second straight shutout as the Patriots blanked visiting Mount Olive College 4-0, Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 19) in non-conference men’s soccer action.

September 13, 2007 - The Wingate University men’s soccer team rallied for three unanswered goals in the second half to take a 3-1 NCAA Division II victory over Francis Marion University Wednesday night at the WU Soccer Complex. Three different players scored goals for the host Bulldogs.

August 31, 2007 - Freshman forward Juan Rivas scored a pair of second-half goals to give Francis Marion University a 2-0 shutout win at Queens University of Charlotte on Friday night (Aug. 31) in men’s soccer action, handing first-year FMU head coach Kevin Varnado his first coaching win. FMU improves to 1-2-0.

November 3, 2006 - Francis Marion University men's soccer head coach Murray Hartzler announced on Friday (Nov. 3) his retirement from the coaching profession to concentrate full-time on his duties as the institution's athletic director.
Hartzler also announced that his assistant coach for the past five seasons, Kevin Varnado, has been named head coach for the Patriot men's soccer program.
