January 31, 2008 - Athletic Department officials at Francis Marion University have announced the hiring of Charley Mitchell of Raleigh, N.C., as assistant coach for men’s soccer and the university’s equipment manager. He is a former Patriot soccer player and an FMU graduate.

November 1, 2007 - Francis Marion University senior forward Jonathan Bartomioli, senior midfielder Biagio Galle, and freshman forward Juan Rivas have been named to the Peach Belt Conference 2007 men’s soccer All-Conference Team.

October 3, 2007 - For the second consecutive year, the Francis Marion University men’s soccer team will participate in the Passionately Pink for the Cure™ program, Wednesday, Oct. 17, when the Patriots play host to USC Aiken. The match will begin at 4 p.m. on the FMU Soccer Field. Admission is free. Fans attending the match are encouraged to wear pink. Pink commemorative t-shirts are available for $12 if ordered by calling 843-661-1241 before Oct. 5.

September 5, 2007 - Francis Marion University freshman forward Juan Rivas has been selected as the Peach Belt Conference men’s soccer “Offensive Player of the Week” for the opening portion of the 2007 season (ending Sept. 4).

August 14, 2007 - The Francis Marion University men’s soccer team has been picked to finish fifth during the 2007 Peach Belt Conference campaign according to the annual preseason coaches’ poll, while sophomore midfielder Kyle Clinton was named to the preseason All-PBC squad.

November 3, 2006 - Francis Marion University men's soccer head coach Murray Hartzler announced on Friday (Nov. 3) his retirement from the coaching profession to concentrate full-time on his duties as the institution's athletic director.
Hartzler also announced that his assistant coach for the past five seasons, Kevin Varnado, has been named head coach for the Patriot men's soccer program.

September 26, 2006 - FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University men's soccer team will play host to Peach Belt Conference foe North Georgia College & State University, Saturday afternoon (Sept. 30) on Florence Soccer Association Appreciation Day. The match will begin at 2 p.m. on the FMU Soccer Field. Admission is free. All Florence Soccer Association players and coaches are invited to attend the match and players are encouraged to wear their uniforms. Those in attendance will be recognized.

September 1, 2006 - The Francis Marion University men's soccer team will open its 2006 campaign with one of the youngest squads in the region, but with a roster that includes talent and an equal amount of promise. The Patriots open their season Friday (Aug. 25) at 7 p.m. against Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, N.C.

June 29, 2006 - Findlay native Jonathan Runion recently completed his playing (soccer) and academic careers at Francis Marion University, an NCAA Division II institution in Florence, S.C., earning accolades both on the playing field and in the classroom.

June 1, 2006 - Francis Marion University seniors Mike Greenaway and Jamie Wiggins have been named to the inaugural Peach Belt Conference All-Sportsmanship Team, as announced by PBC commissioner Marvin Vanover this week. One male and one female student-athlete from each of the league’s 11 member schools were placed on the team.

September 8, 2005 - Francis Marion University athletic director and men's soccer coach Murray Hartzler was recently appointed chairman of the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Committee, which governs the Division II men's soccer championships.

August 25, 2005 - The Francis Marion University men's soccer team will open its 2005 campaign with an unusual mix of experience and youth: seven seniors, four sophomores, and 12 freshmen.

August 24, 2005 - The Francis Marion University men's soccer team has been picked to finish fifth according to the 2005 Peach Belt Conference preseason coaches' poll, released Friday (Aug. 18), while Clayton State University was installed as the preseason favorite.
